1. Prospects for the development of nuclear power and technological installations for the nuclear fleet, nuclear facilities on maritime transport, including nuclear-powered ships, barge-type ships, nuclear service vessels, and others, nuclear fleet repair and technological facilities, storage facilities for nuclear materials (NM) and radioactive waste (RW), vehicles for transporting NM, radioactive substances (RS), and RW, containers for storing and transporting NM, RS, and RW, technical equipment for processing RW, and dry-dock facilities.
- Review of project documentation;
- Development of regulatory documentation;
- Development of quality assurance programs for nuclear energy use at maritime transport facilities;

2. Technical and operational requirements for the energy and technological equipment of the nuclear fleet, nuclear facilities on maritime transport, for storage and transportation of NM, RS and RW products (including nuclear service vessels, nuclear fleet repair and maintenance facilities, NM and RW storage facilities, vehicles for transporting NM, RS and RW products, containers for storing and transporting NM, RS and RW products, and technical equipment for processing RW products).
3. Regulatory and technical support for the safe and efficient technical and technological maintenance and repair of the nuclear fleet, nuclear energy facilities on maritime transport, their decommissioning and disposal, as well as the storage and transportation of NM, RS, and RW.
4. Methods for improving energy efficiency on nuclear-powered ships.
5. Organizational, technical, regulatory, and methodological support for nuclear, radiological, and fire safety of the nuclear fleet, vehicles transporting nuclear materials (NM), radioactive substances (RS), and radioactive waste (RW), and other nuclear facilities on maritime transport for personnel, the public, and the environment:
- organization and technology of maintenance and repair of nuclear energy facilities and their onboard equipment;
- work organization at nuclear energy facilities on marine transport;
- ensuring safe transport of NM and RS by sea (including cargo transshipment in seaports and their temporary storage);
- regulatory and technical support for the handling of NM, RS, and RW, the handling of NM, RS, and RW during transportation, execution of rescue operations in case of emergency, involving vehicles transporting NM, RS, and RW;
- organization and implementation of accounting for and control of nuclear materials and radioactive materials, radiological monitoring, and automated control of the physical protection system at nuclear energy facilities;
- accounting, control, and physical protection of nuclear materials, radioactive substances, and radioactive waste during their transportation, storage, and use (including regulatory and technical support).
6. Measures to prevent the proliferation of materials that can be used to manufacture weapons of mass destruction.
7. Prospects and main directions for the development of energy systems and equipment for marine vessels utilizing nuclear energy, along with technical and operational requirements for newly developed systems, installations, and equipment.
8. Assessment of the technical condition of ship equipment and vessels utilizing nuclear energy.
9. At the request of other sectors of economy, the department performs work for industries both within Russia and abroad, and carries out activities not prohibited by current legislation.
