Testing of marine diesel engines and marine incinerators
The widespread use of maritime transport in the modern world can have a devastating effect on the environment due to gas emissions. Every year, exhaust gas cleaning technologies are being improved to achieve minimal concentrations of harmful substances in the output.
The main sources of gas emissions in maritime transport are diesel engines and waste incinerators. These systems can produce substances such as nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and other hazardous substances. In addition to the presence of toxic components, exhaust gases may also exhibit smoke opacity. Smoke opacity is caused by presence of aerosol particles such as soot in its composition, the increased content of which can also have a negative impact on the environment.
Based on the above, a number of regulatory documents establish emissions limits, which must be met by all equipment used on ships.
The Central Testing laboratory for expertise and working conditions of the CNIIMF’s industry scientific and methodological center for occupational safety and health on maritime transport holds a Certificate of Recognition of Testing Laboratory No. 16.06037.381 dated April 25, 2016, issued by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and offers cooperation in the following areas:
- research and measurement of emissions from marine diesel engines and equipment for cleaning exhaust gases from marine diesel engines for compliance with the requirements of Annex VI to MARPOL 73/78, the Technical Code on Control of Emission of Nitrogen Oxides from Marine Diesel Engines (NOx Technical Code 2008) and GOST 24028-2013;
- measurement of flue gas emissions shipboard incinerators (CO, O2, soot) in accordance with IMO МЕРС.244(66) standard.
The Testing laboratory is equipped with modern measuring equipment, allowing work to be carried out quickly both on the customer's premises and on our own test benches. The team of experts ensure the quality of services and guarantee successful approvals in all subsequent stages.
